Lawrence Laments

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/02/2001

Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence blamed himself for not changing the side for the 3-1 defeat away to Forest. Following the game the Grimsby boss said: "It was our worst 45 minutes since December. Having made life so difficult for Forest in the first half, we then made it very easy for them."

"It was our third game in seven days and I was at fault not making changes." rued Lawrence, whose side drew 2-2 away at Bolton on Tuesday evening.

"We lost two players inside the first 20 minutes with muscle strains, and by the end of 90 minutes we didn't have the legs." said Lawrence, after the Mariners had suffered the loss of left back David Smith and forward Steve Livingston inside the first 45 minutes.

Grimsby had looked the bettter side in the first 45 minutes and had gone into the interval 1-0 up. David Platt's men scored three times in the second half to record a 3-1 victory, a result which flattered the East Midlands side.

"We've played Bolton and Forest this week and we could have won both games but have ended up taking just a point." Lawrence lamented.
