Mariners Announce New Director

By: GTFC Press Release
Date: 17/07/2001

AS REVEALED by the Fishy last month, Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce that John Fenty will be joining the Board of Directors at Blundell Park, with the official appointment being made at a Board Meeting tomorrow afternoon.

Mr Fenty has previously been a director of the club, having served under former Chairman Bill Carr, and he is excited at the prospect of returning and joining the existing Board in guiding the club through an important period, with the new stadium on the horizon. Mr Fenty will be issuing a personal statement on his appointment in the very near future.

Chairman Peter Furneaux said, " I am very pleased to welcome John to the club. His expertise will be utilised to the full."

The new appointment is a further indication of the Board's desire to take the club forward, with further skills added to a Board which already possesses a wealth of business experience and knowledge. Whilst still in the process of dealing with a £ 1.3 million deficit from last season, they have already shown their ambition with their backing for the manager's new signings during this pre-season period, and they are fully aware and prepared for the new campaign in Division One and the challenge that it represents for Grimsby Town.

The club has a special part to play in the community and, with the support of the fans coupled with Boardroom harmony, which will allow for the vital business of making the correct democratic decisions in the best interests of the club, the Mariners will continue to play that part with pride.

The appointment of another Director is expected within the next week, and it is believed the person will be Michael Rouse, another former member of the board during the Bill Carr regime.
