BOSTON UNITED today signed Grimsby Town striker Daryl Clare. The Channel Islander has been on trial for the past seven days with the Conference outfit and is expected to make his debut at the weekend. Clare joined Grimsby as a trainee in 1995, and made 99 appearances (59 as sub), scoring 10 goals.

Last season Daryl had loan spells with Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town. With the Cobblers Clare made 15 appearances (three as substitute) scoring three goals, and at Cheltenham he made four appearances and scored no goals.

Lennie Lawrence handed the Jersey-born striker a free transfer at the end of last season. The Grimsby boss waived the Mariners' right to a tribunal fee under the Bosman ruling because of his age, allowing Clare to find a new club before the start of the current season.

The 22-year-old striker had agreed to move to Third Division outfit Carlisle United last month, before financial problems which led to the Cumbrians terminating the contracts of several first team players forced Clare to pull out of the deal.
