Alan Buckley signed a young Andy Tillson from Kettering alongside Paul Reece. Tillson broke into the first team alongside Mark Lever at centre back. Together they helped Town climb out of Division and set Division 3 on fire. Halfway through the 90/91 season QPR made an 500k offer and Town accepted.
At QPR Alan McDonald and Darren Peacock kept Tillson out of the team and he was loaned back to Town before being sold to Bristol Rovers. Having spent several years with the Pirates Tillson, at the age of 34, helped Walsall return to Division 1 and set up a return to Grimsby in the coming season.
