Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Bring In A Bootroom

By: Ray Lucas

AFTER the comings and goings at Blundell Park, it's nice to see some continuity at the club with Paul Groves having taken over.

However, if Grimsby Town are to enjoy any measure of success in the future, a Liverpool-style boot-room is the answer.

What the club would need to do to safeguard their future would be to select a group of coaches and gradually advance them up to the top job. You could say that Paul Groves has already done this, but the club needs stability. Off the top of my head, John McDermott and Kingsley Black could well be potential managers in the near future. I make this plea because it is unsettling to me to see managers change with alarming regularity.

It would also be good to see recently relieved managers helping out at Blundell Park. High-profile bosses like Spackman can only help the club. If the system were in place, Paul Groves could be succeeded by current captain John Mcdermott.

So come on Grovesie, safeguard our future!

Sir Paul Groves by Zola Budd

Arise Sir Paul and to your knees all supporters of Lennie Lawrence. A nice man indeed but what true supporter can be satisfied with Grimsby's recent form. Lennie has had a fair crack of the whip but it has to be said that even Alan Buckley could have done better.

There can be no doubt that Paul is THE man for the job. He has served his club well playing game after game with guts and leadership as his sword and shield. (WBA were fools to let him go so cheaply!) He is a man who who can inspire the rest of the team to fight for every ball and win against the odds.

It is ironic that Paul kept us up with the only goal against Fulham last season and I wouldn't be surprised if he does something similar this season. The board have picked a good time to get rid of Lennie Lawrence and GTFC has plenty of time to avoid the drop.
