Taylor's game against the Hornets to be his last?

GRIMSBY Town's loan striker Robert Taylor looks set to play his last game for the Mariners at Watford. After that, the Wolves marksman will have to endure a three-match ban after his sending off against Bradford, and there would be little point in retaining his services thereafter.

Speaking to the Evening Telegraph Taylor said: "I don't know what's going to happen. If I get a three-match ban there's no point in Grimsby keeping me for another month. I won't be able to play for three weeks and there's no point them playing my wages if I can't play. I'm just going to concentrate on Sunday and on that game."

Taylor will now miss the games against Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Stockport County. Then after that it is up to the manager and the board of directors if they want to pursue another month's loan for Taylor or find another loan option.

Of the sending off the 30-year old said: "I just got caught up in the game and I was desperate to win for the team and for myself. The referee wasn't giving me anything and when the ball came over I thought it should have been a penalty to us. I just kicked out. Not at the player, just in frustration. There's a lot at stake to stay in the first division."

Taylor now knows that it is up to the club on whether they stick by him. "Now it's up to the club. They gave me an opportunity and I know I didn't help them out at all on Saturday. It was stupid and I let down the other players. But I just wanted to do well."

Like many Mariners fans on Saturday, Taylor felt the referee didn't apply common sense to the situation. "I'm not sure that the referee saw it properly, and if I had connected there would have been a fight on the pitch," he added.

Meanwhile manager Paul Groves contemplates on whether an appeal would realistically benefit the player and the club. "It's all right appealing as long as there's a reasonable chance of getting something from it. If he gets a three-match ban we'll have to see where that takes us. But I think he's given us something different on the pitch," concluded Groves.
