Fenty Looking For Same Support as Last Season

GRIMSBY Town chairman John Fenty is calling on the club's fans to repeat last season's 'fabulous' support and cheer the Mariners onto success next season.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph Mr Fenty said; "Last season we had fabulous support from the fans - I thought they were fantastic. They had room for complaint at times as we all did - even the manager had his say after some disappointing performances." "But we have a basis to go forward and I would obviously urge fans to get their season tickets early and be behind the team again next season."

The Town chairman feels that the Mariners have stopped the rot after two successive relegations, despite a lowly 18th place in the final League Two reckoning.

Now he is hoping the team move forward and push to the top of the division next season - something he believes they can achieve with the fans' support.

Mr Fenty went on: "We had ups and downs but we are still in the division.

"We've kept the spine of the team for next season and I think we've predominantly kept the ones we wanted to.

"I'm confident in what the manager's plans are and I'm sure he will get the right players to bring in.

"It's just a case of being patient at the minute.

"Players go away on holiday and then they hang on to get themselves the best deal.

"I'm confident we will have the type of squad we want for the start of the season."

Mr Fenty added: "The two we have signed, in Gary and Jermaine, look very promising. They are both young, but have experience as well and they are the right sort of player to have in the squad."

"We want to have that blend of youth and experience and it gives the manager more options in attack. "Hopefully, we will be able to get more like them and build a strong squad.

"And with the fans behind us next season, we can hopefully push Grimsby Town forwards again."
