After losing Gary Croft to Blackburn for £1.5million, the coffers were in the tin for Brian Laws to splash out on a decent replacement. Instead he signed Tony Gallimore from Carlisle for a then record fee of £180,000.

Rumours abounded about Gally from his previous clubs and soon he earned the nickname Gallonmore (for his drinking) although far worse abuse often came from the Main Stand!

It soon became apparent that Gally was one of those players who had slipped through the net and should never have been allowed to become a footballer. Totally one footed and with less pace than a snail, Gally almost single handedly got us relegated during 2002/3. Remember the likes of Rougier and Routledge? Gally actually stayed in the side for 7 years, shrugging off the threat of Jobling, Chapman and Barnard before eventually relieving us of the punishment of watching right wingers being able to not only beat their man but then cut inside at will. Gally has since spent time ruining the lives of Barnsley and Rochdale fans.
