Colin Calderwood's Northampton have enjoyed a decent start to the 2005/06 campaign, currently lying in 6th place in League Two. Last season the Cobblers narrowly missed out on promotion, after they lost in the Play Off semi-final against Southend in May. This season meanwhile, like Town, Northampton have been better on their travels than at home - winning away at the likes of Carlisle, Macclesfield and Rushden.
Northampton have perhaps one of the strongest squads in the division. Among them of course is ex-Town utility man Jason Crowe who left Blundell Park in the summer. Ex-Forest defender Chris Doig joined Crowe in the summer after a previous loan spell at the Sixfields last term. Veteran midfielder Ian Taylor, who has played over 400 professional games also joined from Derby County. Josh Low cost the club £100,000 from Oldham in 2004 while Gavin Johnson arrived at the end of August after a brief three month spell with Boston United. In attack, they can rely on the goals of Scott McGleish (left), while Junior Mendes is on a month's loan from Huddersfield Town.
Andy Kirk. Played for the reserves in midweek and will hope to go straight into the starting eleven after being sidelined through injury since August. The ex Boston striker was signed for £300,000 last term and netted seven goals in seven league starts for the Cobblers. This, combined with his tally for Boston meant he scored 25 times in League Two last season - underlining his threat to defences across the country.

Town have lost more than they have won against the Cobblers - although the Mariners won the most important game in 1998! The first meeting was in the FA Cup in 1914, but generally the two sides have met in the basement division. In the last 13 meetings, no-one has won by more than one goal, which suggests Saturday will be a tight fixture.

Town last met Northampton earlier this year at Blundell Park, with the Mariners losing 2-1. The Mariners started well and Michael Reddy netted after 22 minutes to give Town a half time lead. But goals from Scott McGleish and Trevor Benjamin in the second half gave the Cobblers all three points. Most Town fans will remember the game for Ashley Sestanovich being sent off after coming on as a substitute just four minutes previously. It was to be his last outing for Grimsby Town
