Beat the Bookies: Week 36

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 05/04/2006

I can assure you that Wrexham's failure to beat Grimsby on Saturday and the consequent loss of a tenner was amply compensated for by the joy of a Mariners' victory. Indeed, betting on Town to lose is a kind of insurance against the pain of defeat.

Home > 2005-2006 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 36

This weekend there are some fascinating matches, not least Carlisle v Grimsby. bet365.com go Evens for a home win, 12/5 for an away win and 11/5 for a draw. Given that Carlisle have won their last six league games, Town lost their last away match 5-0 and Grimsby's poor record against the top sides then the Evens bet looks the best value, although if only the bookies were offering 3/1 for an away win I might fancy that.

Elsewhere in League Two in-form Oxford are a surprisingly generous 11/10 with bet365.com to topple Chester at home. Oxford, who have won their last two home games, probably need another three points to avoid relegation. With their final three matches looking tricky, they'll be looking to get those points on the board as soon as possible and should beat Chester, whose away form has been generally poor and looked a distinctly average side at Blundell Park recently.

In the Premiership West Ham have the forward players to worry Chelsea, but can they go all the way and grab three points at Stamford Bridge? bet365.com offer 12/1 for a result that would being a smile to the faces of many neutrals.

Elsewhere Man Utd take on Arsenal at Old Trafford, and bet365.com offer Evens for a rampant United side to triumph at home against an Arsenal outfit just back from a big clash in Europe and keep up the pressure on Chelsea.
