WITH only two recognised central defenders, Ben Futcher and Justin Whittle, Graham Rodger is looking to strengthen that area and is currently looking at two well known players to fill that role.

He is also looking at other midfielders and one he is talking to is from a League one club.

Tonight, Town take on Gainsborough Trinity at Northolme Stadium at 7.30pm and Rodger is including new signings Peter Beagrie and Gary Harkins in the squad with Paul Bolland also included.

The Grimsby Telegraph also reports that one of the trialists set to appear tonight is Lewis Buckthorp, a local lad who has been handed his chance to shine. The Grimsby-born midfielder played for 45 minutes against Lincoln United on Tuesday night and showed some good touches.

The 22-year old former Whitgift pupil - who spent three years at Leeds United as a youth player - may well get another opportunity tonight.
