Glad to see Pittman decided to stick around for another game, but baffled with the persistence of playing clay again and to a lesser degree Ironsides.

Trying the back four who will be needed at Bristol: good.

Why are we wasting 2 starting berths on Ironside and Clay? Preventing another two players to not only get fit but to learn to play with each other?

Jeez...we hit the woodwork, then they get a tap in to take the lead. Switching dugouts still hasn't brought the luck back.

Mansfield are a bit, erm, 'basic' in their style of play. Lots of big blokes lumping it forward. They are such a big side that they've won lots of headers but we've actually defended pretty well until a couple of sloppy errors led to their goal (the first fluffed clearance that bounced to their striker and McKeown failing to push his weak shot around the post).

We've played some decent stuff at times, especially considering that we're almost short a player or two as Ironside is doing nowt. Pittman quiet, Clay a bit better but not great. Paddy unlucky not to score as he's got into some good positions.

Not impressed with Mansfield at all!

Town dominating for large periods but go behind to a Rhead tap in after McKeown saved palmers shot.  HT Town 0-1 Stags

Already?

Me thinks our trialists have ballsed their chances.

A few boos, mostly applause. I didn't bother with either.

Shouldn't have lost, really. No urgency in the second half but we had a couple cleared off the line, one from Magnay (who looked solid at the back), the other from Hannah. Mansfield improved in the second half after adding a bit more pace but we still played the best football - just in fits and starts.

Frustrating that we didn't try to play a bit more football, but too often we just hoofed it for the sake of things!

Same old story but with different players? Is that a fair assumption? We can't score. We badly need that goalscorer in the mould of Hearn.

I thought we played alright created a few decent chances that on another day go in. Scott brown for me is going to be vital for us he covers so much of the ground a bit like niven and scott kerr but a faster version that can also pass the ball.

We looked the better team tonight and deserved at least a draw, Scott Brown, Thomas,  Doig and Magnay had solid games which bodes well for the Bristol game, Paddy played well and was unlucky with his effort that came off the post.
Pittman looked sharp and my guess is he will still be here Tuesday, Ironside is improving but whether that will be enough for a contract only Hurst knows, not too keen on Clay and I think that will be his last 45, both LJL and Hannah were unlucky not to be on the score sheet and all in all a good work out

I thought at played quite well tonight but just couldn't put our chances away. Mansfield haven't changed, all a bunch of dirty illegitimates!

Ironside and Clay were awful and if we sign then I will seriously question Paul's judgement. I also thought Magnay was excellent at centre half tonight and I have no worries him coming in for the start of the season!

Ironside might as well not have been playing in the first half. Utterly dominated by their big and physical defenders. Clay was better than against Donny the other night but still not up to much. I don't think either would be good additions to the squad.

Pittman didn't do a great deal tonight, either, but I'd imagine he might be a useful different option so it wouldn't surprise me to see him sign.

I agree that Magnay looked very solid and we generally dealt with the aerial assault quite well tonight, in the first half especially. Brown looks an improvement and he could make a difference in games assuming he can start to link up well with Disley.

Not sure we'd sign him on that recommendation - no different to the trialists - more irrational desperation if we do!

So how many games has Ironside had? Four? Plenty of time to impress, and by the sound of things he's impressed no one. It's a long time to spend at one club trying to earn a deal. If he's let go, which I think will happen, he'll not have much time to find a deal elsewhere. Not that it's our problem.

The one trialist who did impress was Hinchliffe and he was moved on immediately because of one reason or another.

The jury's out on Pittman - clearly has experience and impressed at Crawley, but is injury prone. Not sure he's stood out enough in his two games to make me think he's the answer to our forward line problem though.

He did more against Donny than tonight, that's for sure. That said, Ironside was so completely dominated by their defence that he couldn't link up for Pittman to do anything much. I can't say I'm massively enthused by any of the trialists, but Pittman is probably the one I would go for out of all of them.

It's a real pity that we lost tonight due to our one real defensive member-up all game (and even then it was a bit unlucky).

A lot who didn't see the game will think same old, same old, but we really weren't bad and I think we have more ability in the squad than last season. It's just a matter of whether or not we can make two or three extra signings to make the difference.

Had more chances than them but failed to put them away, Hannah a couple of chances, Paddy should have done better , on my two viewings i would summarise thus;

Hurst needs to bin off the three triallists and start playing a settled side ready for the start. Four or five different attacking combinations with 45 mins each wont be able build a relationship ready to start, neither will the the centre midfield.

Still no visible clear pattern of play which is most concerning.

Set pieces.....no threat at all.......Throw ins....Jeeeez...seriously..??

As we stand...today....as if we didnt know it...we need to add firepower....i think without reinforcements we may see Arnold getting a chance up top within 4/5 games of the new start.

In the two games this week we have probably created 7 excellent chances, good news maybe but of those chances we have made the keeper save 1 and the rest havnt hit the target.

Its all a bit deja vu.

Didn't go last night but I see Pittman was only given 45 minutes. Anyone know if he was injured or not?

If not seems silly to take him off thought we would have give him 90 mins and a decent chance to show us what he's got?

Yeh, he got a knock fairly early on but looked to have run it off ,perhaps tightened up at half time. I like him and think he would be a good signing.
