Quoted from Ipswin

He did time for smuggling wacky baccy from S Africa (nicked at Southampton) whilst playing for Durban United many years ago. Sadly he died in 2018 after running an antiques shop in Bradford for many years He had dementia just like his strike partner the great Sir Matt

Thank you for the update. I never knew what happened to Green. That's sad.

He was a very hard player back in the days when you were allowed the odd "discretion " or two from the refs. He would always try to intimidate goalkeepers.  He could take it as well.

Mike Hickman for me.  I remember him going for a 50:50 ball against Frank Large (another hard man - who did he play for?).  There was an almighty bang, Hickman took the ball and ran over the top of Large!  I don't think he even noticed Large was there!

Halifax or Northampton I think against us.

Mike Hickman, a good call.

Cumming for me but other hard men that deserve a mention are Rathbone, Hickman, Whittle D Welbourne.

Although not a wimp Cliff Portwood was such a good looking fella he would never put his head in where it might get hurt and always came off the pitch without a hair out of place I remember one game where he was a yard off the line at the ponny end and all he had to do was nod it over the line instead he decided to chest it which gave the full back chance to hook it clear.

Andy Todd, Alan Pouten, John Cockerill, Shaun Cunnington all tough and would run through a brick wall,  but the hardest has to be Sir Bobby Cumming absolute legend, tough as nails.

Wimps to many too many mention.

That’s how I see it 👍

Should add loads from the Newell era... always thought Devitt  would be wimpiest in most sides but at least he tried where others in that era were, as confirmed by linwood recently, massively unprofessional.  Not necessarily wimpy but disinterested is similar.

Has nobody mentioned Mark Lever yet?
