So...basically.....if it wasnt for his dad he would be on the scrap heap.....good on him for not giving up on it but he is just one fortunate lad amongst hundreds of others who dont have an ex pro dad and his contacts to give him a leg up.

He gave him a season at Billingham Synthonia, not a 3 year deal at Man Utd.

Good luck to the lad, sounds like he’s happy with his lot & he’ll be playing at Wembley this year. Hope we don’t sign him though - Bury and Hartlepool? Bloke’s a fúckin Jonah!

I spent two years working bang next door to Billingham Synthonia's old ground. If you can find me a bleaker or more dystopian backdrop for a football ground than that, I'll give you a KitKat signed by Phil Barnes.

I said the old ground.

This was basically the hospitality suite, at one end of the ground.

Not sure when the ground or tower block were demolished, but this was the view from the other side of the pitch:
