A long story involving a kilo of spicy Ghanaian shrimp sauce, too much tequila, a small glass receptacle and a very unhappy hotel owner.

A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.

It's a long story!

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

I'm barking mad.....

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Worked as a fish lumper on Grimsby docks for a few years (plaice)

Changed from relegation plaice to promotion plaice the first time we were promoted out of the National League.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Amazingly I live in Epworth…..in the Isle of Axholme ……but was born in Cleethorpes

Many years ago I called in on a Humberside sport “ Buckley” phone in……when he asked me where I was from I told him……he didn’t know Epworth or the Isle ……and asked if you have to get a boat to it!

I met him recently and he remembered……!!!
