Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Finish International Targeted

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/10/2001

FINNISH international Harri Ylonen is believed to be a target of Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence, who is desperately seeking a right back. The 29-year-old, who Lawrence has observed during scouting missions in Norway, is currently playing for Brann, but is out of contract at the end of the month.

Ylonen, who has fallen out of favour at Brann after turning down a new contract in the spring, is available on a Bosman and can operate at both left and right back, and has also played in central defence. England fans may recall Ylonen playing in March's World Cup qualifier at Anfield, and he was also believed to be in the squad which drew 0-0 with Germany yesterday, although did not play.

"Harri ends his career for us," said Brann boss Teitur Thordarson. "It has to do with the family situation. His wife has a job in Finland and she lives there with the kids. His whole situation has not been good, and that has affected his play. We won't have Harri any more on these premises."

"There is both interest in Finland and in other lands," Ylonen's agent Kristiansen revealed.
