Coyne Wins Player of the Year!

AT THE Winter Gardens tonight (Monday) Grimsby Town Football Club held its annual awards night which, this year, was broadcast on Radio Humberside. Tim Harvey Grimsby’s Press Officer said he was delighted with the turnout, which reflected the renewed interest in the club around the district.

Most of the players interviewed expressed their appreciation of the support and encouragement they had received from Paul Groves, Graham Rodger and Paul Wilkinson which had built the confidence of the players.

All were concerned by the ITV Digital situation and some, who were out of contract during the Summer, were concerned about their own situations but said that Paul Groves would be talking to them shortly and sorting "A few things out."

After interviews with players and club officials and with a great deal of vocal support from the fans at the function, the awards were presented

The major award of The Player Of The Year, decided by the fans votes on Mariners Net, the official site went deservedly to Danny Coyne for the second year running with 53% of the votes. (Michael Boulding was runner up.)

Danny Coyne also won The Fishy's Player Of The Year award (pictured) and followed that with the GTISC Player Of The Year award

The Supporters Young Player of The Year award was won by Simon Ford. This award is also voted for by the supporters on Mariners Net.

  • The Grimsby Telegraph's Sports Editor Award, was won by Michael Boulding.

  • Paul Groves won the Radio Humberside Player Of The Year

  • Ron Wylie the club's PA announcer won the Chairman's Special Award. Ron retired today after many years of service.

  • Goal of The Season Award was won by Michael Boulding.
