Macca Report - Fact Or Fiction?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 21/05/2003

RUMOURS abound today regarding the future of John McDermott. The lead story on the Rivals Hull City site declares that Peter Taylor's offer to Macca has been withdrawn and he will be signing a new contract with Grimsby Town!

The Rivals Hull City site states:

"Amidst all the recent speculation it would appear that the 'definite' signing of John McDermott was not so definite, and City have now turned their attention to a highly rated Premiership youngster.

The indications were that Hull City would be signing John Mcdermott from Grimsby Town today. That now seems unlikely to happen. Questions over the age of the experienced full back (the danger of another Shaun Smith scenario) appear to have killed the deal at the 11th hour.

McDermott looks certain to sign a new contract with the Mariners tomorrow.

This report is unconfirmed yet so it is possible that Macca will sign for Hull City as previously reported. But the City site seem quite confident that the story is accurate.

According to Macca he wanted to leave Grimsby for personal reasons so if the deal with Hull falls over, would he want to sign for the Mariners again?

As this is the time of the season that rumours are at full stretch it is better not to count your chickens until pen hits paper or an official announcement is made. Football is noted for its close resemblance to MI5
