Chris Thompson

Young striker signed from Liverpool’s Academy in 2001. Got his chance during Lennie Lawrence’s final few games but the word ‘chance’ is hardly suitable. Playing in a 5-3-2 formation with little/no support was not the best introduction to professional football. Had to wait over a year for another chance but this time it was a real chance.

A vital relegation battle against Stoke saw Thompson show the form he promised in the reserves. Scoring an individual wonder goal, moments after getting clattered, and putting in an all round solid display before leaving the field with cramp. Next game he never got a touch and was dropped. Played in Town’s final game last season and won the penalty for the opener. Released as part of Paul Groves’ shake-up but could well resign with strikers hardly coming out of Groves’ ears at the present.

Next Player: Danny Butterfield
