Grimsby v Ebbsfleet Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/02/2013

GRIMSBY must put aside thoughts of Wembley for a few weeks and get back to the bread of butter of league matches, epitomised by tonight's game with basement club Ebbsfleet United at Blundell Park. Town lost their last league game, which also featured to a team in the drop zone, last week at Braintree.

Other results didn't go their way last Tuesday, and the weekend's league results when Town were otherwise engaged in the FA Trophy, were also generally unfavourable. The Mariners now find themselves in fourth place, which hopefully has given everyone a wake-up call if they needed one that the title race is wide open and five or six teams in with a shout of the coveted automatic promotion place.

Grimsby have no injury worries but will probably rotate their side to cope with the circumstances of the game. Derby defender Tom Naylor is available to make his debut if needed. He can play centre back, right back or even in central midfield if required.

Ebbsfleet are a tough physical side who are strong in the air and at set pieces. Town have played Ebbsfleet 3 times and only beaten them once, when the scoreline was 4-3 last season, so the scoreline is unlikely to be the hammering many fans might expect. The Kent side are bound to set their stall out defensively and will be hard to break down.

Ebbsfleet have played their last five games at home, and are unbeaten in the last three. Their last away trip was at Woking where they lost narrowly to a late goal.
