Town Start with a Win

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/08/2017

GRIMSBY got off to a winning start to the new season with an impressive 3-1 win over Chesterfield. Nathan Clarke and Sam Jones gave Town a two goal half time lead. Kristian Dennis pulled one back after the break before Ben Davies scored from the spot with both sides having a player sent off in the closing minutes.

Town defended well throughout the game, with McKeown in fine form in Town's goal. The Mariners absorbed a lot of pressure and tried to catch Chesterfield on the break. The only blemish was the red card for Zak Mills for a second offence late in the game.

Grimsby take on Derby tonight in the EFL Cup at Blundell Park in what will be another difficult challenge.
