It's Just Like Watching Brazil!

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 27/08/2001

GRIMSBY TOWN supporter John Holmes has started discussions with the Mariners board to forge links between Blundell Park and clubs in Brazil! Life-long Town fan Holmes is currently visiting the UK from his exile in South America, and talks are underway.

"I think the time now is right for us to bring in some Brazilian players, or even Brazilian teams to play friendlies or even twinning. " Grimsby-born Holmes told Radio Humberside. "We can help support and boost Grimsby in the big fight for this club's future. I represent at the moment the leading Brazilian football club - which is Flamengo.

"I also represent the actual Brazilian confederation itself. And we also represent another three different sized teams directly from Rio de Janeiro. If we can agree conditions regarding loan staff, that can possibly be the next step forward. But again Peter [Furneaux], myself and his staff needs to sit down look at the opportunities and discuss the next twelve months"

Last season Grimsby enjoyed an unaccustomed Neapolitan feel about it with players from all over the world arriving at Blundell Park on trial or loan. Lennie's so-called "Foreign Legion" arrived from all five continents with countries including China, Holland, Argentina, Poland, New Zealand, Belgium, France, Norway, Denmark, Spain, and Germany all proving sources of potential new talent.

If the relationship blossoms readers can expect a host of colourful songs to appear on the Fishy's Karaoke Night pages!
