Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Town's Injury Problems Persist!

By: Peter Forrester
Date: 10/01/2002

GRIMSBY'S injury problems are always apparent, even more so with such a small team.

I noticed this week that sometimes when big teams such as Man City and ahem...Norwich get a few injuries and they lose or draw a game their poor results are always blamed on "injuries to important players". This annoys me because when we lose, which is quite often, the media hardly ever mention our struggle to even name a sub bench.

I remember an instance when a couple of years back Boro were docked 2 points for not turning up to a game because they didn't have a full fit team, thank goodness Town actually name a full squad for a match day even if we don't have enough players, otherwise we would be even bigger trouble than we already are. Anyway enough of my rambling, here is this week's injury list and as always it is quite long..........

Alan Neilson:

The right back from Fulham hasn't really found his form at Grimsby. This means that some fans are raising doubts over him. Well depending on if you love or hate him the player is rated only 50:50 for the game against rivals WBA on Saturday.

Paul Raven:

The centre back, yes we do actually have some of these players, is rated less than 50:50 for the game against the gaffers ex team. It seems the "CB Syndrome" has struck again.

John McDermott:

The newly appointed captain can see the horizon if you like, a return is in sight and the sooner he comes back the better, in times of desperation a steady head is needed, and Macca has that. Don't expect him back before the Crewe game though.

Alan Pouton:

The ex York man would have been disappointed to miss out against his old club in the Cup but more importantly the midfielder is walking without crutches which is always a good sign. His return date could be earlier than expected.

Bradley Allen:

The striker told the official site that he is definitely out for the WBA game but could be back for the Crewe game. This would be a welcomed site as a bit of experience is needed at this time of the season, oh.....and also someone who can actually put the ball in the net.

Steve Livingstone:

Hang on........... he sounds familiar. Isn't he that big bloke who has ginger hair and used to play football? Well whoever he is, he's back in training and is doing the usual to get his strength back after his "mysterious injury" hit him, such as cycling and the like. Well I shall be the first to welcome this new player back to the club because we need a big striker.
