A Big Thank You - Official Statement

By: GTFC
Date: 31/05/2006

TOWN chairman John Fenty has issued a big thank you message to the Town fans and is sorry that they were not rewarded for their tremendous support on Sunday and during the season.

"The fans on Sunday were absolutely fantastic," he said. "Despite the journey that they had to endure, they turned out in numbers, outnumbering and out singing the Cheltenham fans - even though they had a relatively short journey to make.

"I am sorry that we couldn't finish off what has been a wonderful season. I am sorry that we didn't give our supporters the reward that they have deserved. And the Town chairman has clarified the situation with regards Russell Slade's future at the club.

"We've failed to agree terms with Russell so we're left in a situation where that contract is null and void.

"I spoke extensively with Russell yesterday and we've asked Russell put forward what he wants.

"I will meet with my fellow directors today to discuss the matter further."If the board feels we can't afford the package Russell has proposed then we will have to move on.

"We need to make a quick decision on who is going to manage the club next season. "We have a lot to sort out for next season and the sooner we resolve the situation the better as far as Grimsby Town football Club are concerned.

"There is still a possibility we could agree on a one or two-year deal with Russell."

We will keep you informed of further developments.
