Very interesting. Lots of energy in midfield with game-changers on the bench.

McAtee, Emmanuel & Taylor on the bench. Looks like the usual line up 3  2  3 1 1

With the exception of Deniz Undav for Welbeck or Veltman, Brighton are indeed at full strength…

Not too surprised with that. Thought we might opt for Smith as the 3rd centre back just to sure up the defence. JM a bit of a surprise, but I guess Hurst trusts Khan to cover more ground.

Massively disagree with leaving Hunt out, and you need to start McAtee in games like this - he's our main big game player.

Already around £1M secured for the war chest next season, job done.

Anything from now on is a bonus.

Very solid line up for back 9 and plenty of running from Orsi and Khan.  I expect Taylor and McAtee to come on shortly after half time.

NL less than a year ago.  TalkSPORT said today that Messi relied on through balls from World Cup winner McAllister at the World Cup.

How far have we come so quickly?  Long may it continue.

Besides a World Cup winner, Brighton had 9 other players at the World Cup.  They also believe that they should have 3 players in the current England squad.

Apparently if the keepers feet are inside the box then it's not handball. A ref just told me - crazy I know but that is the law.

That’s bonkers that!

Anyway 1 - 0 down at half I’d of probably taken that, not sure if we could have reacted quicker for the goal but there you go.

What the team has done this half shows they can play. They might be under pressure but they are competing with a prem side looking to play in Europe.

It’s the ball that matters and where the contact is with the hand. If it’s beyond the line and outside the area, it’s handball.

Defensively we've been pretty sound and conposed, but when we attack we just fall apart l, poor passes, poor decision making and just being clumbsy.

Still in the game. When Orsi has got the ball he has given it away almost every time. Would probably change him for MaCatee or Taylor.

We’ve worked really hard and competed so well, but it’s disappointing to be so flat footed for the goal. Didn’t want to concede early and not a basic error. Fans are superb!

That’s bonkers that!

Anyway 1 - 0 down at half I’d of probably taken that, not sure if we could have reacted quicker for the goal but there you go.

It’s bonkers cos it’s wrong, his mate needs to go back to referee school 🤨

Think we've executed the plan, limiting a very good side. Wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor and McAtee come on at half time to give us more up top. Maybe I'm delusional but they've actually given us space a couple of times but our execution has been poor.

Disappointing but still in the game.

What was disappointing was Burnley, top of the Championship and probably moving up to the prem, losing 6 -0 nil and failing to score a goal. We're about 70 odd places below Brighton and go in at half time only 1-0 down.

Hmm…from those strangely limited camera angles and taking into account the Mitoma effect that did for Germany in the WC, some of the ball was still on the line.

Difficult to tell though.

It’s a bit bizarre if we’re using VAR without proper cameras in place for key decisions like that.

You have to question why we are now not looking to get Taylor and Emanuel on and punt it a bit.

Good quality goal for them, 3-0 down and a goal too many. Let's hope for a consolation goal to send the fans who travelled something to cheer about.

I think on the whole Grimsby have done alright, it was always going to be difficult for us but their class is showing now, what the commentators are forgetting is that these players who play for Brighton are worth millions, I’m proud of my team.

We’re arguably playing against one of the top 10 clubs in Europe at the moment. Top 20 in the world. Not many teams would fancy a cup match against the Seagulls at the moment.

I agree with you Chris, let's not forget Brighton could sell one of their cheaper players, buy Grimsby and still have a few million in the bank. The difference in quality and class is tremendous, but hey ho we move on.

The second goal was the killer. Brilliant from a young player who looks likely to have a good career ahead of him. They were a bit jammy for the third.. Just a real pity we didn't manage a better go of things today.

For all the huff and puff, we've just not passed the ball well enough when we have had possession. Too often the case this season.

That o.g. hit both of Luke’s legs before dribbling in.

We’ve certainly not had the bounce of the ball today. Used up our deflection luck with Richardson’s arsê cheek goal.

A step too far for us, but I like that we were still giving it a go at 4-0 down. What a great cup run though we'll remember this for years to come. Fair play to brighton they took us seriously and good luck to them in the semis.

I was very worried about March and Mitoma ripping us to shreds. The fact they didn’t shows how well Glennon and Efete played.

Glennon was unbelievable. Hopefully that’s given him confidence that he can defend as well as he attacks because he was brilliant.

I think Waterfall heard there were some Napoli scouts in the ground and wanted to show them he could do the beauty and the brawn.

He and we will always have Wrexham. And Notts County. And Solihull Moors. And Southampton. And…etc

Amazing scenes at the end and Town supporters showing real class. Think the Town players were a bit taken back by the support and emotion after the final whistle. Makes you proud to be a mariner, even in defeat. Watch out Mansfield we’re coming for you. UTM

Couldn't lay a glove on them. Too good for us, but we gave our all and the fans were great.

Long way for a hammering, but glad I went.

History makers.

I'd also like to say well done to Brighton. Very good football team and the locals were helpful and friendly.

Brighton deserved the win, they are a very good side and  there is no shame losing to them.

Our lads gave everything today. They can hold their heads up. And the reception they got at the end was incredible. Despite being disappointed, the players stayed on that pitch saluting the fans for ages at the end. Very classy from both the players and the fans.

There is a real bond between the payers, management, ownership and fans. And that is why today we may have lost a football match, but we are winners in every other respect.

Our club is back.

Amazing scenes at the end and Town supporters showing real class. Think the Town players were a bit taken back by the support and emotion after the final whistle. Makes you proud to be a mariner, even in defeat. Watch out Mansfield we’re coming for you. UTM

Very classy support, I really hope you push on.

We've lost to teams in the same league as us by similar scorelines, Burnley lost by more (yeah, albeit only 1) to City and they're only 1 league below. Their team was worth what, 350  x ours, I don't think it was as bad as it could have been.

Wonderful memories. So proud of our club.

Like Cloughie I believe in miracles but hand on heart, I couldn't see any scenario where we could possibly have won that game, such was the gulf in class. I predicted 6-0 so 5-0 exceeded expectations. You have to put your hands up and say well done Brighton, incredible team.

The players and fans gave it their all. I'm delighted the players got a magnificent send off from the fans at the end, which was class. You'd have thought we'd won the cup, rather than lost 5 zip but it was completely justified given the players heroics to reach an historic quarter final.

I think I had something in my eye at the end.

Special mention for all the Brighton fans on here and who we met over the weekend who were all friendly, humble and very complimentary about both of our fullbacks after the game. Class act. Hope BHA go on to win it.

Back to reality with Mansfield up next. Think we'll see a few changes from Sunday as the players looked dead on ther feet at the end.

Onwards and upwards! UTM.

Well yeah, I know that.

Was just thinking that it's the furthest I've travelled in 50 years watching Town, almost knowing what the outcome would be, but glad to do it anyway.

As I said, we made history.

I'd rather not remember a 5-0 drubbing, thanks!

Would be better to have the Luton game thread here as that was by far our best performance in the Cup this season.
