Grimsby v H&W Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/12/2012

GRIMSBY have vowed to play a strong side in Saturday's home clash with Blue Square South outfit Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Trophy. The Mariners rested a few players in the last round against Buxton, and were forced to play a replay in Derbyshire, which Town only narrowly won.

With the busy Christmas period ahead of them the Town bosses will be desperate to avoid a midweek replay in Hampshire on Tuesday night, especially as the Mariners face Wrexham in the big top of the table clash at Blundell Park on Friday.

Town have two injury worries. Left-back Aswad Thomas (achilles) and midfielder Frankie (hernia) are both doubtful for the second round tie.

For Havant and Waterlooville it appears on paper that the trip to Blundell Park is the biggest game of the season for former Pompey striker Lee Bradbury. The Hampshire side are currently just below midtable in the Conference South, and although the play-offs are not out of the question, the FA Trophy is bound to be a high priority for Havant. The Hawks have a cup pedigree - they beat Town's BSP rivals Braintree in the previous round, winning in a replay, and in 2007 they reached the FA Cup Fourth Round, where they faced Liverpool and at one stage were winning against the Reds. In earlier rounds they had beaten York, Notts County and Swansea.
